Sezgin Er
Sezgin Er is currently a second-year Medical student and is double majoring in Computer Engineering at Istanbul Medipol University. He spent a semester in Boston, MA for language school with a scholarship from Istanbul Medipol University.While he was in high school, he competed at the Tubitak National Biology Olympiads and received silver medals in 2018 and 2019. He also competed at the 30th International Biology Olympiad (IBO) and got a gold medal. While studying for the International Biology Olympiad, he took various biology lectures and worked at the Molecular Biology Laboratory at Gazi University under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Leyla Açık. He is currently mentoring students at TUBITAK camps.
Currently, he is an undergraduate researcher in the Kılıç Lab. He also has been an intern at Kerman Lab since 2019. He is working on the effects of the M2 macrophages on oligodendroglial cells and the macrophage polarization in stroke. Additionally, he is interested in the deep learning applications in biomedical research since he believes that deep learning is a powerful tool for wet-lab research.
