PhD.
Melis Durasi received her Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Genetics, and Bioengineering from Sabancı University in 2011. She successfully completed many courses in the Computer Science and Engineering department to conduct research in interdisciplinary fields. From June 2010 to October 2010, she was an intern-research fellow with the Lenhard Group at the UNI-Sars Centre at CBU, focusing on the computational genomics of transcriptional gene regulation. In 2011, she completed her bachelor’s thesis in the Sezerman Laboratory and published it in the International Symposium on Health Informatics with the title “Detection of Transcription Factor Binding Sites in Informatics Databases.” She was accepted into the PhD program in Molecular Biology, Genetics, and Bioengineering at Sabancı University with a TUBITAK Doctoral Support-Project Scholarship. Throughout her PhD, she worked on identifying and developing integrative network-based approaches to identify active regulatory pathways in complex diseases. In her PhD thesis, she focused on developing a “tool” to find the underlying disease mechanism by analyzing different regulatory interactions. She developed a method that enables the systematic analysis of data using miRNA, mRNA, and protein-protein interaction networks. Her work was accepted at the EMBO-EMBL Human Microbiome Symposium.
She holds a B.Sc degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics from Çanakkale 18 Mart University. During undergraduate studies she participated three years in lab worked on human microbiota- glycobiology and gained basic lab skills. She also, took part in 3 months at University of Lodz, Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection, Cancer research laboratory as a summer ERASMUS internship and studied “Apoptotic and cytotoxic effect of Resveratrol on human breast cancer”,.
She is currently a M.Sc student of Medical Biology and Genetics department in Medipol University, SABITA and focused her interest to understand molecular mechanisms of regenerating axolotl.
