Cancer immunotherapy using small molecules as PD-L1 inhibitors

“Cancer immunotherapy using small molecule PD-L1 inhibitors” focuses on using small molecules to block and target the PD-L1 (Programmed Death-Ligand 1) protein, an important checkpoint in cancer immune response. PD-L1 interacts with the PD-1 receptor on T cells, inhibiting their activation and allowing cancer cells to avoid immune detection. By using small molecules to block this interaction, PD-L1 inhibitors can enhance the immune system’s ability to detect and destroy cancer cells.

This approach has shown promise in treating various forms of cancers, particularly in non-responsive individuals to traditional treatments. Small molecules are advantageous in terms of greater bioavailability, potential for oral administration, and the ability to target PD-L1 more effectively, hence proving a suitable alternative to monoclonal antibodies, which are typically used in immune checkpoint blockade therapies. The goal is to design and construct small molecule inhibitors that can be used as part of combination therapy in order to improve the overall efficiency of cancer immunotherapy.

I am Dr. Mahboubeh Rostami, an Associate Professor at the Isfahan University of Medical Sciences. My research primarily focuses on the development of anti-cancer agents, with a particular emphasis on polyoxometalates and small molecules. I explore how these agents can modulate and inhibit various cellular targets to combat cancer effectively. Recently, I have shifted my focus toward cancer immunotherapy, where I am working on identifying and developing potential candidates for immunotherapeutic applications. Additionally, MOF-based nano drug delivery systems are a key component of my research, as I aim to enhance the targeted delivery of therapeutic agents. My goal is to discover innovative solutions for cancer treatment through targeted molecular therapies and advanced drug delivery techniques.
