The Şahin Lab concentrates on the molecular mechanisms of therapy resistance and metastasis in cancer.
Cancer deaths are highly  associated with acquired resistance as well as metastasis.  The major aim of our lab, therefore, is to comprehend the molecular basis of resistance development and metastatic spread of tumors by utilizing in vitro and in vivo models. In this line, we combine modern molecular/cell biology methods, bioinformatics/computational approaches and clinical sample/data analyses.Two most aggressive subtypes of breast cancer, HER2-overexpressing and triple negative breast cancers (TNBCs) as well as ER+ breast cancer are the major disease-foci. In addition to breast cancer, we work on the molecular pathogenesis of gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs).
Research in our laboratory is funded by grants from Bilkent University, European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO), Marie-Curie Actions, The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) and Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA).
