30 October 2015 at REMER Talks, well known Stem Cell and Cancer Researcher Khalid Shah from Harvard Medical School is going to be at REMER / Medipol Univesity.
Dr. Shah is a Associate Professor, Harvard Medical School. Head of Molecular Neurotherapy and Imaging Laboratory, Director of Stem Cell Therapeutics and Imaging Progra and Department of Radiology and Neurology, Massachusetts General Hospital. Over the past 5 years, Dr. Shah has established the first MGH research program to simultaneously integrate therapeutic and diagnostic proteins in stem cells and tumor cells to develop and understand stem cell based therapies for brain tumors. In recent years, Dr. Shah and his team have published a number of studies in very high impact journals like Nature Neuroscience, PNAS and Lancet Oncology, validating the use of therapeutic stem cells alone and in combination with clinically approved drugs for brain tumor therapy. In collaboration with a number of laboratories within the Harvard, National and International communities, Dr. Shah’s laboratory has recently developed clinically relevant mouse models of brain tumors, and stem cell lines expressing multiple therapeutic proteins that can target both cell death and proliferation in both tumor cells and tumor associated vasculature. The potential for developing novel stem cell based therapies and imaging markers for cancer in his laboratory has been recognized by many cancer alliances and associations. Based on this, he has received the Young Investigator award from Alliance for Cancer Gene Therapy (ACGT), Research Fellow award from American Cancer Society (ACS) and also a number of translational grant awards from American Brain Tumor Association (ABTA), Goldhirsh Foundation, James S. McDonnell Foundation and National Institutes of Health.
Dr Shah will give an inspiring lecture titeled Mechanism Based Stem Cell Therapies for Cancer: Opportunities and Challenges for Future.
